Woah, time flies when you’re having fun. Or not having fun.
Happy 10/10/10 everybody.
So I’ve been working a temporary position in a Student Loans Company call centre since the beginning of September. Not the most exciting job in the world, and sometimes stressful, but I’m getting paid, and thus far I’m making ends meet. Its nice when you can help people or give people good news. But when you have to tell them “Sorry, you need to send in another form, which may take 4-6 weeks to process,” that sucks. Also, going to work at 8:00AM sucks. Fortunately this week my shifts are all 11:00-7:00. There was supposed to be a staff rampdown at the end of September, but it’s been so damn busy that still hasn’t happened, and likely won’t for another couple weeks.
Regarding the now months overdue website redesign, today I hit upon a visual concept that I’m pretty happy with. It’s quite a departure from the old, all in a very minimalist mode. I’ll keep it under wraps for now though, in case I change my mind again. As the design is basically completed, all I need to do now is code the damn thing up into a wordpress theme. Hopefully I’ll be able to do that over the next couple weekends.
I also might be volunteering at the Supersonic Festival in a couple weeks (hopefully finding out tomorrow), which may mean I have to quit my job a week or two early, unless they can give me two days off, or shift-swap to a weekend. But either way, by the end of the month I’ll be back in the jobmarket with some solid peak-period inbound call-centre experience and career-specific volunteering on the CV. Shouldn’t be too hard to get some Christmas work, and then next year hopefully make some bold steps towards the Canada Plan.
I feel oddly upbeat about things.
