Day 14: A Song That No One Would Expect You to Love
I don’t know about this one, I tend to be pretty open about my music tastes. You should expect just about anything from me surely?
Yeah well, did you expect this?
That’s right, it’s a Monkees song. FROM 1987!
Of course, I’m sure you all knew I liked the Monkees already. Problem is this was a reunion album. Yeah, nobody wants the Monkees to get back together, right? Right. Except I really like this song. It kind of hints at a potential matured version of the pop TV stars The Monkees. That promise did of course not hold true.
Heart and Soul also has a fun video that pokes fun of the Monkees’ characters, and their legacy. Also riffs on the Star Trek IV idea of people out of a different era not knowing how things work in the 80s. Double dumb-ass on you, and such. It also unfortunately rewrites history to remove Michael Nesmith entirely due to his well-advised lack of involvement in said reunion. I reiterate though, this song is kind of cool? Don’t look at me like I’m crazy. I am a little crazy though. About this song. Sigh.
